Inner Light Revisited

I have been thinking about Picard in The Inner Light and wondered what it would be like if the event happened in his infancy.

Imagine he is less than a year old. The probe transports him into another life where he is the same age, and has a new mother and a new family. He grows up into adulthood, has a family and becomes a grandparent. He dies, the whole event took all of 20 minutes and his consciousness returns back to his original consciousnesss, back to the same age and same family.

Two Birds On A Tree

This is one statement Jill Bolte Taylor made at the TED conference that struck a note with me.

The True Story (Revisited)

I have been thinking about the True Story , about how Krishna concluded that it would be better to simulate creatures' experience of the world, than expending a lot of material resources creating a real physical world, with all the logistical and organizational issues of putting creatures in it.

Jill Bolte Taylor - My Favourite Guru (press-ganged, of course)

I guess I can't say much about this lady, a number of you may already know about her, except that I have press-ganged her into service as my number one guru.

Whenever I listen to her I found myself along trains of thought I haven't considered before, considering her choice of words and wondering why she chose those words in particular, those phrases.

I also find myself returning to verses in Hindu and Buddhist scriptures, which although I did not gloss over, whose significance I don't quite understand until I hear her repeat them in a different way.

Where in the universe is our sense of physicality located?

Where in the universe is our sense of physicality located?

Where in the universe is my sense of being an incarnate being located?

What Michael Jackson Taught Me

Being a black bloke, and in middle age, I remember when I started going off Michael Jackson, some years after Thriller, after the Bad album came out. Even with Thriller his musical style had changed, going from the African-American soul music we expected like in Off The Wall, to a harder-edged rock, which to seemed to made for its appeal to whites. It wasn't the stuff I as a black person expected, and he has also began to appear tough, challenging and snarling and Bad in his music and videos, as the album name suggests.
